The Criminal Defence Lawyers Association (Calgary)

The Criminal Defence Lawyers Association (CDLA) is based in Calgary, Alberta and represents the interests of lawyers practicing primarily in defence of the criminally accused. Our membership consists of over 120 members practicing in all corners of Alberta.

We represent the criminal defence bar in negotiations and meetings with representatives of the Alberta Court of Justice, the Court of King’s Bench of Alberta, and the Alberta Court of Appeal regarding the practice of criminal defence law in our courts.

We provide our membership with information and educational opportunities that facilitate practicing criminal defence law throughout the courts in Alberta.

We also regularly advocate for equitable funding from the Government of Alberta for Legal Aid Alberta and the setting of reasonable Financial Eligibility Guidelines by Legal Aid Alberta to ensure that everyone who cannot afford a private defence retainer can be represented by a lawyer.

Please note that the CDLA does not provide advice or legal services directly to members of the public. For advice or representation in Criminal Defence matters in Alberta, please consult our membership list and contact the lawyer of your preference.
